how to electronically brighten someone’s day
by D.O.
Sometimes the simplest things in life — the things that seem so little, so trivial — are actually big blessings under the guise of Small and Insignificant. This holds true not only in the real world, but also in the Interwebs world. Below are four examples of things that, if you cause them to appear in a friend’s web browser, will undoubtedly bring a smile to their face.

The facebook.com “Inbox 1″ (as I call it). This is always an exciting thing to find when you log in to your facebook account. Send a friend a message, and make them smile, but be careful not to abuse facebook’s messaging.

The facebook.com “Red Bubble Dealy.” This is arguably more exciting than the “Inbox 1,” as it could be any number of goodies, including the always satisfying “So-and-So made a comment on your video.”

The flickr.com “Recent Activity New.” For those of you who aren’t on flickr, you may not have the easiest time understanding out fulfilling this yellow-backed word can be. Someone took the time to comment on your photo. That’s just real nice.

Finally, Gmail’s “Inbox 1.” Think about how happy you are when you receive something in your (actual) mailbox that isn’t junk, bills, or wedding invitations. Now take that amount of happiness and subtract a little bit (because let’s face it, snail mail is still cooler than email), and that’s how fun it is to have a (1) staring you in the eyes when you log in to your email account.
So, in closing, if you’ve accidentally done someone dirty and want to make the situation right, or you’d like to e-flirt with that special (potential) someone, or you have a friend who is sick (cough, cough…) and you’d like to send them well-wishes, feel free to utilize any or all of these tried and true methods. They’ll not disappoint, espeically if the person to whom you’re sending them is me.

I concur wholeheartedly! I have also found that reading such encouraging & thought-provoking blogs as http://www.derrickoliver.com to be just as heart warming!
I agree… my favorite out of these is the Flickr “Recent Activity New” thingy. That’s always fun!
However, during the middle of my working day when just starring at my computer screen, the Gmail “Indox (1)” gets me real excited too. I pretty much see it as it changes and have already clicked on it before it can stay that way for a millisecond.
You should e-flirt with someone…
Go ahead…
You know…
What about the ever coveted “__ Comments” option? How does that one rank in this list?
